More details
The Susannah Brook and Wooroloo Brook Catchment Groups combined in 2024 to form the Susannah Wooroloo Catchment Group (SWCG), to improve volunteer capacity and management of both catchments.
The SWCG catchment spans throughout the Shire of Mundaring, City of Swan and Shire of Northam and the suburbs of Stoneville, Mt Helena, Gidgegannup, Red Hill, Millendon, Herne Hill, Baskerville, Wundowie, Wooroloo and Chidlow.
Since the Susannah Brook Catchment Group’s formation in 2002, revegetation has been undertaken from Blue Wren Reserve in Stoneville to the eastern and western public open space areas off Strawberry Hill Drive in Gidgegannup. An average of 6,000 seedlings and 2,000 rushes have been planted annually, revegetating the public open space areas.

The Wooroloo Brook Catchment Group has been very active historically, focusing on tackling salinity and improving water quality as well as protecting and enhancing biodiversity values. More than 700,000 seedlings were planted, particularly in the eastern catchment, with over $1.5 million of funding accessed and managed for these projects.
The goal of the SWCG is to link fragmented patches of bushland, creating wildlife corridors, improving surrounding remnant vegetation, controlling weeds, planting native species and providing habitat for endangered and threatened species. In addition, the group aims to improve water quality in the Swan River system by reducing erosion and nutrient export into the river system.

The SWCG has a membership of approximately 60 people and supports Friends Groups including the Friends of Blue Wren Reserve, Friends of Timbertop Reserve, Friends of Berry Reserve, Friends of Gidge Reserve, Friends of Noble Falls Reserve and Friends of Reserve Road Reserve.

Location
The main tributaries of Susannah Brook make up five sub-catchments, which are Lower Susannah Brook, Thirteen Mile Flat, Upper Susannah Brook, Burgess Road and Bush Creek. The catchment area is approximately 6,000 hectares and has one third remnant vegetation cover, which is generally of good to very good condition. Areas of significant bushland are Wandoo Heights in Herne Hill, Pioneer Quarry and Midland Brick in Red Hill. The main reserves in the catchment are Blue Wren Reserve, Susannah Brook Reserve and Timbertop Reserve.

The Wooroloo Brook Catchment covers 36,000 ha. The Wooroloo Brook is a major tributary at the confluence of the Swan River and Avon River. The town-sites of Wundowie, Wooroloo, Chidlow, Mt Helena and Gidgegannup are all within the catchment. The main reserves in the catchment are Berry Reserve, Reserve 2145 (Gidge Reserve), Noble Falls Reserve and Reserve Road Reserve.
